How do I file for Bankruptcy?

American Bankruptcy Institute is an association that provides education to bankruptcy and restructuring professionals.

ABI does not employ bankruptcy professionals and does not provide legal advice.

However, ABI maintains a Consumer Education Center located at http://bankruptcyresources.org/

This important section of ABI’s website is designed to help consumers survive money problems, rebuild their credit and recover before or after bankruptcy. The information and links from this section can help you determine when bankruptcy is the appropriate choice (and what to do then) or whether alternatives to bankruptcy (such as debt or credit counseling) are a wiser course. It also provides a link to attorneys in your area who may be able to help you with your situation.

Debtors looking for an attorney should visit the "Find Help" tab to view listings of attorneys in their area. Please note that ABI does not endorse or make any representations regarding the attorneys listed in the directory.
